Puka Nacua has been one of the league’s premier wide receivers since entering the NFL, and the BYU product is due for a massive extension as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. Selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the wide receiver immediately outplayed his draft capital and established himself as Matthew Stafford’s go-to target. Starting and appearing in all 17 games as a rookie, Nacua finished his inaugural campaign with 105 receptions for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns on 160 targets while earning a Pro Bowl appearance.
Injuries limited him to just 11 games in 2024, but he still managed to record 990 yards and 79 receptions in that limited sample. He came back better than ever in 2025, leading the NFL with 129 receptions for 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns while helping quarterback Matthew Stafford win MVP. With the receiver market exploding, Puka Nacua will likely earn a massive raise in the coming months, and his latest move could indicate the likely record-setting deal will come sooner rather than later.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Puka Nacua has changed agents and is now represented by the Win Sports Group. While this doesn’t necessarily mean a deal is imminent, it’s interesting that this happened as the wide receiver is actively looking for an extension.
Puka Nacua Switches Agents Amid Contract Fight
Under normal conditions, teams would be thrilled to have the opportunity to lock up a budding superstar like Puka Nacua as he enters his age-25 season. Wide receiver is one of the most important positions in the game, and Nacua is one of the game’s premier talents. However, the wide receiver has caused more than his fair share of off-field concerns over the past few months (to put it mildly), and nobody would blame Los Angeles for being cautious about handing out a massive extension.
Head coach Sean McVay has stood behind Puka Nacua publicly, but the unwillingness to spend big on the wide receiver shows the team is worried about his long-term ability to stay out of trouble. Even with the change in agents, it’s hard to envision a deal coming to fruition any time soon without Puka Nacua taking a major discount.
As of this posting, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the league’s highest-paid receiver after signing a four-year, $168.6 million contract. Under normal conditions, the 25-year-old Puka Nacua would likely receive a similar contract. However, due to all his off-field woes, he probably won’t receive an offer like that unless he plays out his rookie deal, keeps his nose out of trouble, and reaches the open market.
