Premier League Giant Tries to Advance Pursuit of Leicester City Talent
With Leicester City’s relegation to League One, plenty of clubs have looked to make the most of their downfall. Several young players have already moved on, Jeremy Monga being the most high-profile. The former Leicester winger made his move to Manchester City for a fee of £12.5m. Another talent who came through the Foxes academy is attracting interest, only this time it’s the red side of Manchester, who have come knocking.
Top Flight Interest for Leicester City Player
Despite not featuring regularly, Louis Page was a breakthrough talent for Leicester. He has shown signs of one day becoming a top player, especially once he is more physically developed. Over the summer, there have been rumours of moves elsewhere, but after this faded, a fresh report from the BBC suggests he may still move on. Sami Mokbel reports that Manchester United are working on a deal for Page. However, they aren’t the only club, as Arsenal and Aston Villa are also in the race. The competition has led to United ‘trying to advance’ in their pursuit of the 18-year-old, with talks over an agreement understood to be ongoing.
Page has been with Leicester all pre-season, even featuring in yesterday’s Carabao Cup game against Northampton Town. He also regularly represents England at youth level, and picked up the most recent EFL Championship Apprentice of the Season award. Whilst starting every week in League One isn’t guaranteed, Page has shown signs that he is keen to stay. “I want to become a main player in this team and start all the games I can,” he said when talking to the club’s media.
How Does This Affect Leicester?
Coming into this season, Page was certainly someone that Leicester fans were eager to see more of. A drop down in competition, and now under a manager who plans to dominate games with possession; it seemed like the perfect match for him. However, the likes of Conor Chaplin and Liam Cullen have since been brought in as options in these high number eight roles. Furthermore, Oliver Skipp and Hamza Choudhury remain experienced options, whilst youthful Sammy Braybrooke is already impressing.
It’s tough to know what kind of an impact Page can make for the Foxes, and when top clubs like Manchester United come calling, it’s hard to turn down. Leicester have already lost Trey Nyoni, Tyrese Noubissie, and, of course, Monga to these big clubs, as their academy continues to show why it’s so highly regarded. Page may be the next to depart, and if he does, City will be helped financially.
Page has already signed a pro contract, which means it can’t go to a tribunal like some of the others. Furthermore, he has strong experience in the first team and for England youth teams, which should also boost the price. This summer has been about rebuilding, and whilst losing these talents isn’t ideal, they have to make the most of the situation. With Monga, the £12.5 was terrific business; it will be interesting if they can do the same again.
