Chelsea will clearly be active in the remainder of the summer transfer window, with plenty of players set to leave. The next player confirmed to have left the club is England international Trevoh Chalobah, who has signed for Italian team Como for a fixed fee of £25.6 million, with another potential £5.1 million due in add-ons and a sell-on clause. Having been a part of Chelsea for 18 years, Chalobah posted an emotional message on his X account as he departs Stamford Bridge.
Trevoh Chalobah to Como Confirmed
Chalobah Posts Emotional Goodbye Message
Chalobah has been linked with an exit from Chelsea almost continuously in recent seasons. However, his tenacity has always seen him fight his way back into the squad. The England international has now accepted his future lies away from Chelsea and has joined Como to play under former Chelsea and Arsenal maestro Cesc Fabregas.
He has been linked with a move to Como for several weeks, and that deal is now done. In an emotional goodbye, Chalobah posted his thoughts via his social media channels:
“After 18 years, it’s time to say goodbye to Chelsea. I arrived as a nine-year-old with a dream, and I leave as a man who’s lived that dream in ways I never imagined. This journey tested me, lifted me, and strengthened me. To every teammate, coach, staff member, and supporter, thank you for shaping me. I gave everything I had, and I’m proud of the person this club helped me become. To the young players: the path won’t always be smooth. But stay ready, stay positive, and keep your faith. God’s timing is always right. Thank you all, truly, with love and gratitude.”
A further message from Chalobah read:
“An 8-year-old boy walked through those doors. A man walks out. Dream lived. Purpose fulfilled. To every academy player at Chelsea: keep believing. Your time will come. Never give up.”
What Does Trevoh Chalobah’s Exit Mean for Chelsea?
The 27-year-old defender has been a valuable squad member at Chelsea for a number of seasons, making 151 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea, winning five trophies, including the FA Cup in 2018 and last season’s Europa Conference League.
It was difficult to see him being a regular under Xabi Alonso, following the arrival of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace. Chelsea will lose strength in depth in defence, and there are arguably defenders left at the club who are not as good as the England international. However, those defenders wouldn’t attract as much of a fee as Trevoh Chalobah has. Despite his loyalty to the club, Chelsea need to trim this severely bloated squad, and one of the club’s most loyal servants has paid the price.
