Ronald Araujo’s soon-to-be-official exit to Liverpool has opened a spot in the center-back depth chart at Barcelona and Álvaro Cortés is the current favorite to be given the nod by Hansi Flick, but the young defender’s future is not quite resolved yet.
According to _Mundo Deportivo_, Cortés has “several concrete offers” from clubs in Italy, England, Spain and other leagues who are promising a starting role for the 21-year-old, who had an excellent season at Barça _Atlètic_ last year and has impressed so far for the first team in preseason.
Cortés is focused on staying at Barça and Hansi Flick is also satisfied with the player, but the coach is also evaluating the possibility of signing a more experience center-back with the likes of Aymeric Laporte and Cristian Romero having been linked with the club in recent days.
Flick’s decision will impact Cortés’ future: if the coach wants a new signing, Cortés will leave on loan to get regular playing time. If Flick decides to trust Cortés, he will begin the season as the fourth center-back but has a real shot to earn more minutes as Gerard Martín’s backup throughout the campaign.
So today’s **Barca Blaugranes Question of the Day** is:
**Should Barcelona keep Álvaro Cortés or sign a new center-back?**
