Replacing Mohamed Salah is a puzzle Liverpool know they will eventually have to solve. Finding a direct successor to replicate the Egyptian’s staggering attacking output on the right wing is arguably the most daunting assignment facing the Reds recruitment team.

While signing a proven, world-class right-winger would be the most straightforward solution, the current market for top-tier wide forwards remains notoriously inflated and limited in genuine options. That landscape has led Liverpool into discussions with Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola.

Although Barcola predominantly operates from the left flank, his numbers in front of goal and creative flair offer the kind of profile capable of softening any eventual loss of Salah. Selecting the French international would require a tactical reshuffle, but his talent is indisputable.

The hurdle, however, lies in negotiations. PSG are holding out for a record-breaking fee in the region of €150m (£128m) a figure the Reds are reluctant to meet without exploring alternative avenues.

Cherries starlet emerges as alternative

With Barcola’s valuation proving steep, Liverpool are keeping close tabs on other high-calibre targets. High among the list is Bournemouth’s teenage sensation Rayan, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise since arriving in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old Brazilian hit the ground running on the south coast after completing a January move from Vasco da Gama, racking up five goals and two assists in 15 top-flight appearances. His red-hot form earned him a call-up to Brazil’s senior squad for the World Cup, where he featured in four matches and stepped into a starting role following an injury to Raphinha.

The catch for any prospective suitor is Rayan’s contract structure. The Athletic reports that a release clause worth around £130m is embedded in his deal, but it does not become active until next year.

While Bournemouth would likely demand a premium above that mark if forced to part ways immediately, reports suggest Liverpool could test the waters early. Negotiating a deal closer to the £85m range would represent a major coup for Anfield officials, though waiting for future transfer windows remains a distinct possibility.

Competition mounts as versatile profile fits

Liverpool are far from the only club monitoring the Brazilian’s development though. European heavyweights Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and PSG are all reportedly tracking his progress, while Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal are also eyeing a potential swoop as they seek a replacement for Malcom.

What makes Rayan particularly intriguing for Liverpool is his tactical flexibility. Capable of playing on the right wing, cutting inside on his stronger foot, or operating centrally as a forward, his profile shares similarities with Cody Gakpo’s multi-positional versatility.

Whether the Reds decide to push for PSG’s Barcola or bide their time for Bournemouth’s rising star, one thing is clear: Liverpool are actively laying the groundwork for their next big attacking investment.
