Victor Munoz thanked Liverpool fans after making his first appearance for the club at Anfield on Sunday.

The 23-year-old came off the bench during the 3-2 pre-season friendly defeat to Monaco, having reported for training for the first time with his new club just a few days previously.

Munoz has, of course, spent most of the summer away at the World Cup in North America, where he picked up a winner’s medal following Spain’s victory over Argentina and his new teammate Alexis Mac Allister, whom he is due to meet again when the midfielder returns to training with Liverpool on Monday.

Having had his transfer to the Reds completed during the tournament, with Liverpool hijacking Newcastle’s attempts to sign him in the process, Munoz has had to wait a while before finally linking up with his new club, and the former Osasuna star expressed his delight after getting his first run-out at Anfield.

“Very happy to debut with @liverpoolfc in front of our fans,” he posted on Instagram after the defeat to Monaco.

“Heartfelt thanks for all the support. We will continue to work hard to keep improving and growing. Up the Reds!”

Munoz will be aiming to get more minutes in next week when Liverpool faces Italian side Como in a double header at Anfield before the Premier League season gets underway seven days later at Newcastle.

With new Reds boss Andoni Iraola’s penchant for utilizing pace on the wings, Munoz could be set to play a big role in the forthcoming campaign, with the former Real Madrid youngster looking forward to working more with his fellow countryman.

“I’m sure it’s the correct step for me and this is exactly what the coach, Andoni, said to me as well – that he was going to put a lot of confidence in me,” Munoz said after being officially unveiled during the week.

“His style, it is well known already that he likes to play with open wingers on both sides and to build this constant and intense pressure, this overwhelming drive forward.
