Breaking down the Bears’ Sunday afternoon training camp practice:
Burden out
One day after limping off the practice field after a one-on-one drill against cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, receiver Luther Burden sat out of practice with a groin injury. It’s unclear how long he will miss.
The Bears could only watch as another wide receiver got hurt during Sunday’s practice. Zavion Thomas, the rookie speedster from LSU, left practice early after appearing to favor his knee.
Linebacker D’Marco Jackson, left tackle Braxton Jones and defensive end Montez Sweat remain out. Kiran Amegadjie took the first-team snaps at left tackle.
The great indoors
A thunderstorm that blew over Halas Hall delayed practice by about an hour-and-a-half and forced fans to leave. Playing inside the Walter Payton Center, Caleb Williams threw a 59-yard touchdown to Jahdae Walker. The Bears finished with a long drive drill, in which the first-team players faced off against each other for 10-straight plays.
One downside to practicing indoors: punter Tory Taylor booted a ball off the ceiling during a special teams drill. The Bears went through the drill with one long snapper: Beau Gardner. The team cut Luke Elkin, the other starting candidate, before practice.
Herd mentality
Fox host Colin Cowherd, who has a home in Winnetka, chatted with general manager Ryan Poles and radio play-by-play man Jeff Joniak during practice.
What’s next?
The Bears will hold a walk-through at Stevenson High School at 11 a.m.
