Oh no:"Incredible"Liverpool player on club's 3-man shortlist in potential£59.9m exit

Alexis Mac Allister has been linked with a move from Liverpool to Real Madrid this summer, and it is a transfer rumour that is still refusing to go away.

The Argentine’s future has been a topic of discussion for months now, and a recent claim from journalist Matt Thielen even claimed that Manchester City are eyeing him up:

“Manchester City have made contact with Alexis Mac Allister’s camp to explore a potential move for the Liverpool midfielder. Mac Allister is on City’s shortlist of potential reinforcements should Rodri leave the club.”

It is Madrid who have generally been mentioned as the most likely suitors for Mac Allister if he does leave Liverpool, however, and a report from Spain continues to suggest as much.

They say that the 27-year-old is on a three-man midfield shortlist for Jose Mourinho alongside Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi and Paris Saint-Germain’s Fabian Ruiz.

Mac Allister is said to be valued at £59,9m by Liverpool, but it still appears as though they would far rather him stay put beyond the summer transfer window.

Alexis Mac Allister needs at least one more year at Liverpool

Mac Allister was so poor by his high standards last season, looking a shadow of the player who was so influential in his first two years at Liverpool, but keeping hold of him still makes sense.

He was in a struggling team in 2025/26, exposing his lack of pace in the middle of the park, but he is an elite player at his best, being hailed by Alan Shearer during his Brighton days:

“Mac Allister was no doubt the most outstanding player on the pitch, he was incredible. Everything that was good about Liverpool went through Mac Allister. His passing was superb, his confidence was unbelievable, [he had] the flicks and tricks.”

The lure of Madrid is great for any player, especially those of a South American persuasion, so it is easy to see why his head would be turned by a move there.

But hopefully, he wants to return to his best at Liverpool under Andoni Iraola, becoming one of the first name on the team sheet for them, as was the case in both 2023/24 and 2024/25.
