After spells with Ajax, PSV, Barcelona and Liverpool, Ibadan-born forward joins Singaporean club

With a statement on the official website, Singaporean Premier League club Lion City Sailors have confirmed the signing of dual-national attacker Bobby Adekanye.

Born in Ibadan, Adekanye has represented the Netherlands at U16, U17 and U20 level.

He became provisionally cap-tied to the Dutch after coming off the bench in a European U17 Championship qualifier against Wales in October 2015.

In the formative years of his career, Adekanye represented four clubs that have been crowned European champions.

He featured for the youth teams of Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven before spending four years with Liverpool.

Comfortable on the right wing or as a second striker, the 27-year-old is known for his dribbling, direct running and ability to beat defenders in tight spaces.

At senior level, Adekanye has turned out for Lazio, Go Ahead Eagles, Amedspor and Manisa, while also enjoying loan spells at Cádiz, ADO Den Haag and Crotone during his time with the Biancocelesti.

The forward attracted interest from clubs in Europe and Asia before agreeing terms with Lion City Sailors.

Adekanye lived in Nigeria until the age of four before moving to Amsterdam to join his father, who had already been working in the Netherlands for several years.
