Arsenal face an intriguing few weeks in the transfer window as the new campaign draws closer. Mikel Arteta's side will be hoping to maintain their momentum next term after securing the Premier League title and coming agonisingly close to Champions League glory.

The Gunners have already strengthened their squad, with former Club Brugge star Christos Tzolis adding depth to Arsenal's wide positions. The club also recently wrapped up a £75million deal for Bruno Guimaraes as Arteta sought to bolster his midfield options.

Regarding departures, Leandro Trossard has joined Besiktas, while Christian Norgaard has moved to Everton. However, Guimaraes' arrival has sparked questions over Martin Zubimendi's future at the Emirates Stadium.

The Spain international arrived from Real Sociedad last summer but now finds himself competing with Guimaraes and fellow countryman Mikel Merino for a regular berth alongside Declan Rice. Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli has been touted with a potential switch to Galatasaray. Here, football.london examines the most significant transfer stories involving the Gunners.

Arsenal face Real Madrid transfer twist

Arsenal could be set for another potential transfer tussle with Real Madrid following reports concerning Zubimendi's future. The Gunners recently pursued Los Blancos winger Vinicius Junior before he signed a new deal and the clubs may soon be competing over another star.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reports that Madrid may look to capitalise on Zubimendi's "uncertain" future at Arsenal after the Guimaraes signing. The La Liga giants appear set to miss out on a move for Manchester City's Rodri and could subsequently turn their sights towards the Gunners midfielder.

Chelsea are also claimed to be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old, who started 34 league matches for Arteta's side last season. Mundo Deportivo reports Arsenal would hold out for a minimum of £77m for the midfielder.

The Gunners reportedly pipped Madrid to Zubimendi's signature when completing a £55m deal last year. The former Real Sociedad man has since enjoyed a remarkable 12 months, winning both the Premier League title and the World Cup.

Arsenal stance on forward's future emerges

Arsenal have made their position on Gabriel Martinelli abundantly clear following an approach from Galatasaray for the Brazilian forward. The 25-year-old netted 11 goals across all competitions last term but managed just one in the Premier League.

football.london understands that Martinelli currently remains very much within Arteta's plans. However, the club's pursuit of Vinicius has alerted rival sides to his potential availability.

The Gunners are unlikely to sanction his departure to the Turkish club while they continue their search for a marquee signing. However, if such a player does arrive, the door could well then open for a possible exit.

The Brazilian now faces renewed competition on the left flank following the arrival of new signing Tzolis. The £34m winger has caught the eye during his early pre-season outings for the club.
