With Manchester United yet to step forward for AS Roma’s Manu Kone, Chelsea remain in the picture for the Frenchman.
The midfielder had a very impressive FIFA World Cup and this came right after Arsenal were linked with a move for him. Sport Witness covered that the Premier League champions agreed personal terms with Kone but they never made a formal move.
At that point, Roma were keen on earning a capital gain because of their troubles with FFP. While the deadline to make sales has passed, Kone’s future is still uncertain.
Chelsea are in the mix to bring him to England.
Possible Fernandez replacement
Roma fell to a disappointing 3-0 loss to Brighton in a pre-season friendly at the weekend. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini has been frustrated with the lack of attacking signings and after the loss, he was asked about possible outgoings.
The Italian responded – via Corriere dello Sport: “I don’t know. We have a CEO, ask him to find out what Roma can and can’t do. The ball’s in his court as to the numbers.”

Chelsea continue to keep tabs on the France international. Manchester United’s failure to make a formal move gives Xabi Alonso’s side the opportunity to land a decisive blow, especially with Manchester City looking to sign Enzo Fernandez as a replacement for Rodri.
Kone’s sale would allow Roma the funds to make an attacking signing. They have faced enough frustration after losing out on Crysencio Summerville and Mason Greenwood.

The stance from Italy about Kone has constantly suggested that Roma are desperate for a big capital gain. They have made no major sales this summer.
This is impacting their incomings and with only a few weeks to go before the window closes, something has to change.
That’s why there’s hope a club like Chelsea steps forward for Kone. If they do not, Gasperini’s frustrations will grow further.
