Liverpool ‘eagerly awaiting’ player to address weakness – Reds should announce signing today

Liverpool are a step away from formalising Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo’s transfer this summer.

The Premier League side acted swiftly and found an agreement with Barca to sign him on loan with an option to buy.

At the weekend, we relayed news that Liverpool agreed to a €55m purchase option. Later that day, the centre-back left Barca’s training centre, Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, and greeted fans on his way out.

The Uruguay international was to travel to England soon to complete his loan move to the Merseyside club.

He arrived in England later that day and immediately visited Liverpool’s facilities to carry out medical tests.

Wanted better role at Barcelona

Two days ago, the La Liga winners travelled to Italy for a pre-season friendly and the 27-year-old didn’t travel with the squad.

Later that day, Hansi Flick confirmed the South American wanted something different and has decided to leave.

Ronald Araújo’s expectations was to have a prominent role next season. Hansi Flick didn’t assure him about it, and this convinced him to join the Reds.

At Anfield, Andoni Iraola’s side are ‘eagerly awaiting’ his arrival as they are short of defenders.

Andoni Iraola is without Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez and has confirmed Jérémy Jacquet has suffered a setback. The latter shouldn’t be out for too long, but the manager is currently without a lot of options in the centre-back position.
