The latest reports suggest Galatasaray are exploring a move for Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli, with the Turkish champions stepping up their pursuit of attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season.
Reports emerging on August 9 indicate that Galatasaray have made contact over Martinelli, although there is some uncertainty over the exact structure and value of the proposal.
Some reports have described an offer worth €40 million (£34m) for the Brazilian, while other reporting suggests the €40m figure may relate to Galatasaray’s pursuit of Rafael Leão rather than a standalone bid for Martinelli.
The interest comes amid growing uncertainty over Martinelli’s future at Arsenal. The 25-year-old has been linked with a departure throughout the summer, with reports previously claiming that intermediaries had sounded out clubs about his availability. His situation has become more intriguing as Arsenal continue to reshape their attacking options.
Martinelli remains an established member of Mikel Arteta’s squad, but competition for places has increased, while the Brazilian is entering the final year of his current contract. ARSENAL reportedly hold an option to extend that deal by a further 12 months, potentially giving the club additional leverage in any negotiations.
Galatasaray’s interest in Martinelli is also understood to be connected to their pursuit of Leão. The Istanbul club have been working on a deal for the AC Milan forward and recently submitted a fresh proposal, according to reports from Italy.
Leão has been a long-standing target for Galatasaray, with the Turkish side previously identified as one of the few clubs to make a formal proposal for the Portugal international. His future remains unresolved, however, and a move to Turkey would represent a major coup for the Turkish champions.
Reports have suggested Galatasaray could ultimately pursue either Leão or Martinelli, rather than necessarily completing deals for both players. That distinction will be important as negotiations develop.
For ARSENAL, any decision on Martinelli is likely to depend not only on the size and structure of the offer but also on Arteta’s plans for the winger and whether a suitable replacement can be secured. Recent reporting has indicated that a potential Martinelli departure could be contingent on Arsenal bringing in another wide attacker.
