Liverpool's ownership structure is set for a major shakeup, as a consortium including the likes of Jeff Bezos and Eduardo Saverin is set to be confirmed as a significant minority stakeholder in the coming week.
That's according to Sky News, which claims that the investment group, led by British billionaire Amit Bhatia, is closing in on a stake worth around one-third of the overall shareholding.
The report claims that Fenway Sports Group, the current majority shareholder of Liverpool, is preparing for an announcement on the move that could come as soon as this week.
It's a move that has accelerated in the past few weeks, after previous reports claimed that talks were at an opening stage with the consortium and FSG.
It's a deal that is set to value Liverpool at roughly $6 billion overall, putting it as one of the most valuable soccer clubs in the world, level with the likes of Manchester United.
The consortium started with interest from Bhatia, who spent time as co-owner at Queens Park Rangers in the Championship, where he was also backed by his father in-law, Lakshmi Mittal - the Indian steel magnate.
The entrepreneurs stepped back from their roles at QPR last month, to avoid a conflict of interest, sparking into life the talks of purchasing a stake at Liverpool.
