Barcelona have plans to move on several players before the summer transfer window closes at the end of the month, and one of those is Roony Bardghji. However, those plans look set to go up in smoke, with the Swedish winger set for a significant spell on the sidelines.
For weeks, it has been decided that Bardghji will leave Barcelona this summer. The arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi have dropped him down the pecking order, and with no chance of regular action during the 2026-27 season, it made sense for an exit to be sought.
Barcelona were open to both loan and permanent offers, but now, it is almost certain that Bardghji stays – probably until next summer. As per Sport, there are fears that he has suffered a serious knee injury during Monday’s session, after an incident caused him to leave the pitch in tears.
Bardghji was left out of Barcelona’s squad for the weekend trip to Udine for their pre-season friendly tournament against Udinese and Nottingham Forest, which is why he has remained at the club’s training complex in recent days. It was there that the incident took place, and if his worst fears are confirmed, he could be set for 9-12 months with an ACL tear.
Bardghji tore his ACL earlier in his career
It must be remembered that Bardghji has already suffered a torn ACL during his career. In May 2024, he sustained the issue during a training session when he was still an FC Copenhagen player, and that caused him to miss 10 months of action.
Barcelona will desperately hope that Bardghji’s injury is not as serious as first feared. He may not be in their plans for the 2026-27 season, but they still see him as a key player for the future – his ability to reach his peak would surely be affected if he has suffered an ACL tear.
