Chelsea statement announced! Confirms defender has made summer move

Trevoh Chalobah has completed a permanent transfer from Chelsea to Italian side Como, ending an association with his boyhood club that has lasted almost two decades.

The defender has joined the Serie A club after Chelsea and Como reached an agreement earlier this month, with the deal reported to be worth around £25 million up front, plus a further £5 million in potential add-ons. Earlier reports had valued the package at approximately €30 million guaranteed, rising to €36 million depending on bonuses.

Chalobah joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of eight and progressed through the club’s youth system before establishing himself in the senior squad. His development included loan spells at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and French club Lorient before he returned to Stamford Bridge and made his first-team breakthrough.

He made his senior Chelsea debut in 2021 and went on to become a versatile option in defence, capable of playing at centre-back and right-back. He leaves having made more than 100 Premier League appearances for the club and 151 senior appearances across competitions, according to reports surrounding his departure.

Chalobah’s CHELSEA career also brought silverware, including the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, while he represented England at senior level.

His departure brings an end to a long-running relationship with Chelsea that survived several managerial changes and periods when his future at Stamford Bridge appeared uncertain. He was loaned to Crystal Palace in 2024 before being recalled by Chelsea in January 2025 and subsequently returning to the first-team picture.

The move to Como represents a new chapter for Chalobah and reunites him with former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, who is now in charge of the Italian club. Fàbregas was reported to have played a significant role in persuading the defender to move to Serie A.

Good move for Trevoh to make?

While there will inevitably be sadness at seeing a Cobham graduate walk away from Stamford Bridge, this move could ultimately prove to be exactly what Chalobah needs.

The 27-year-old has completed a move to Como on a five-year deal, ending a relationship with CHELSEA that began when he was just a child. Last season, he made 47 appearances for the Blues, scoring three goals and providing an assist.

Those numbers tell an important story: this is not a player leaving because he has nothing left to offer. Rather, Chalobah is moving at a point in his career when he should be thinking seriously about where he can become most important
