**Major breaking news on Monday morning shows that Liverpool are set to undergo a minority shareholder takeover, with the consortium in talks with FSG set to make a breakthrough.**
According to a report from [Sky News’](https://news.sky.com/story/amazon-founder-bezos-nears-deal-to-buy-stake-in-liverpool-football-club-13571586) Mark Kleinman, an announcement over a deal led by Amit Bhatia, including Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, could be made this week.
The report states: _“Sky News has learnt that Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the Anfield club’s controlling shareholder since 2010, is preparing to make an announcement about a transaction as soon as this week._
_“The deal will see Mr Bezos participate in an investor group alongside Eduardo Saverin, one of the co-founders of the social network Facebook. One source indicated that an announcement was expected in the coming days, although they cautioned that it could slip into next week._
_“If completed, the deal would install a trio of the world’s wealthiest individuals as co-owners of the Reds, one of the most successful teams in the history of English football._
_“Mr Bezos alone has a fortune estimated by Forbes at over $280bn, while Mr Saverin is said to be worth over $32bn.”_
It starts as a minority stake…
------------------------------
I am not the only Liverpool fan quite worried about the potential direction this is heading in.
It will start with a minority stake. Then it will become a majority shareholding position. Then full ownership. Before you know it, FSG will no longer be involved.
This is what my fear of the situation is – not something that has been reported.
While I have been one of FSG’s biggest critics over the years, they have been good owners – particularly compared to what some fanbases have had to deal with at their own clubs.
Billionaires scare me, and at least with FSG owner John W. Henry, he has made a career out of owning and managing elite sports clubs. The likes of Jeff Bezos and Eduardo Saverin have zero experience taking care of a club like Liverpool, which is unique even within professional football.
I really hope that whatever direction this goes in, Liverpool fans will not be mistreated and used for capital gain. That said, Liverpool fans will not stand for anything that goes against the club’s ethos, as FSG have discovered themselves from time to time.
