Gabriel Martinelli wants to remain at Arsenal this summer despite growing uncertainty over his place in the squad and interest from several clubs across Europe.
The Brazil international has entered the final year of his current contract, although Arsenal hold an option to extend his stay by another season and protect his transfer value.
Martinelli’s preference is understood to be to continue in north London rather than actively seek a move elsewhere, according to The Mirror.
That position comes at an important moment for Arsenal, who are still assessing whether further changes are needed on the left side of their attack before the transfer window closes.
The club’s pursuit of Vinicius Junior had placed Martinelli’s future under greater scrutiny earlier in the summer.
Had Arsenal succeeded in signing the Real Madrid winger, Martinelli would have faced an even more uncertain pathway to regular football at the Emirates Stadium.
Vinicius has since signed a new contract until 2032, removing Arsenal’s leading attacking target from the market and forcing the club to reassess its options.
Arsenal have already added Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge, with the Greece international making a positive impression during pre-season following Leandro Trossard’s departure to Besiktas.
Tzolis’ arrival has increased competition for Martinelli’s usual position on the left, but Arsenal are not expected to sanction a sale unless they believe the squad can be improved by doing so.
Interest in Martinelli nevertheless remains.
Roma have held preliminary discussions with his representatives at Roc Nation Sports, while Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have also been linked with the 25-year-old.
Any move to Italy or Turkey would face significant obstacles, however, with Martinelli’s wages and Arsenal’s valuation likely to make negotiations difficult.
The forward has been at the club since arriving from Ituano in 2019 and has developed into one of Arsenal’s longest-serving attacking players.
He has contributed regularly during the club’s rise under Mikel Arteta and was part of the squad that ended Arsenal’s 22-year wait for the Premier League title last season.
Martinelli now faces a battle to re-establish himself as a first-choice starter, but his intention is understood to be to fight for his place rather than look for an exit.
Arsenal therefore enter the final weeks of the transfer window with no immediate pressure to sell.
Unless a significant offer arrives or the club identify a clear upgrade, Martinelli could remain part of Arteta’s squad for the title defence.
