Finley Munroe has become Blackpool’s fifth signing of the summer.
Blackpool have completed the signing of Finley Munroe on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough.
The 21-year-old brings extra competition to the Seasiders’ wide areas, with the predominate position throughout his career so far being left wing-back.
He follows Dion Charles, Ilmari Niskanen, Karoy Anderson and Jordan Williams through the doors at Bloomfield Road, and arrives ahead of Saturday’s League One opener against Wycombe Wanderers.
The defender spent time in the academies of both Chelsea and Aston Villa as a youngster, with two senior outings coming his way with the latter.
His first-team debut came in a UEFA Conference League meeting with Olympiacos back in May 2024, before being sent out on loan to Real Unión at the start of the following season.
Throughout his time in Spain, Munroe featured 24 times in total, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
Last summer, he made the switch to Swindon Town on loan, where he worked under former Blackpool boss Ian Holloway - who masterminded the Seasiders’ rise to the Premier League in 2010, with current head coach Ian Evatt being part of his famous squad.
While with the Robins in League Two, the Bloomfield Road-linked man enjoyed a productive six months down the left side.
In 27 appearances, he scored two goals and provided nine assists, before being recalled by Villa back in January to facilitate a permanent move to Middlesbrough.
That decision from Lions infuriated Holloway at the time - which highlighted what the ex-Bloomfield Road figure thought of Munroe.
“We've just lost the quality he gave us down there,” he said at the start of the year.
“I can't get someone from Middlesbrough, who has a four-year contract, who are paying him what they have decided to pay him.
"Well done to Middlesbrough for recognising it. Aston Villa, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You let go one of the best future left-backs I have ever seen in my lifetime, and I have seen a few. Some of them played in the Premier League with me and for me. I think they have made a terrible blunder."
