Como have confirmed the news that they have completed the transfer of defender Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea. The move ends his long spell with the west London club. Chalobah has signed a five-year deal with the Serie A side.
Trevoh Chalobah to Como: The £30m breakdown
As reported by ESPN, Chelsea will receive an initial fee of £25.7m from Como. A further £5.1m is possible in add-ons down the line. That could take the total package beyond £30m once the bonus clauses are triggered. Como finally got their man after weeks of talks between the two clubs.
Trevoh Chalobah leaves Chelsea after nearly two decades, having joined the club as a child. Manager Cesc Fabregas was keen to work again with a player he once played alongside at Stamford Bridge. Fabregas has built his squad around experienced players this summer, and Chalobah adds further depth at the back. The move reflects how Serie A clubs can now compete with bigger leagues for established Premier League talent.
Trevoh Chalobah’s stats for Chelsea in the 2025-26 season, according to FOTMOB:
Competitions Matches Tackles Interceptions Duels Won
Premier League 34 35 35 134
FA Cup 1 1 1 5
EFL Cup 4 2 2 16
UCL 8 1 7 17
Chalobah’s journey through Chelsea’s academy
Chalobah joined the Blues as a young boy and worked his way through the academy system. He went on to make 151 appearances for the club in all competitions. He scored eight goals during his time there, including three in the Premier League last season. Those numbers look small for a defender. Still, they show a player trusted in big moments rather than one asked to attack often.
As reported by Chelsea FC’s official website, he won five trophies during his years at Chelsea. These included the FA Cup in 2018 and the Conference League in 2025. Chalobah also spent time away on loan at Ipswich, Huddersfield, Lorient and Crystal Palace. Those spells tested him against senior football early in his career. Fabregas praised his new signing once the deal was confirmed. As reported by BBC, “Trevoh is an important signing for us and a player who represents the level of ambition we have at this club,” said the Como boss. “He is a leader who can raise the level of the team, and I am very happy that he has chosen Como.”

Tactical fit and what comes next for Como
Chalobah can play in more than one defensive role, which gives Fabregas useful options at the back. He can slot into a back three or sit in a flat back four with ease. His calm reading of the game suits a Como side that prefers building from the back. That style favours a defender who stays composed rather than one who clears under pressure. Chalobah also holds two senior England caps and was a late call-up to England’s World Cup squad this summer. That experience should help him settle quickly in Serie A.
He has also secured Champions League football for the first time in his career. Como reached that stage after finishing fourth in Serie A last season. As reported by BBC, after the move was announced, Trevoh Chalobah said he felt proud to join such an ambitious project. He also said he was excited to work under Fabregas once more. This move looks like smart business for Como. It pairs a proven defender with a coach who already knows how to get the best from him.
