FSG could be about to hand over a significant stake in Liverpool, with a consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos close to purchasing a significant minority stake in the club.
Liverpool's owners have been in discussions with the group, led by British billionaire Amit Bhatia, and a deal looks to have accelerated, with reports now suggesting that the consortium's investment could be announced as early as this week.
Bhatia's group, which also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, looks to be closing in on a stake worth around 30 percent of the overall shareholding at Liverpool. It is the involvement of the world's third richest man that will have caught the attention of most of the club's supporters though.
Bezos, who has since expanded his portfolio to several other business endeavors, has an estimated net worth of $282 billion, per Forbes.
He trails trillionaire Elon Musk and Google billionaire Larry Page, but is now said to be worth more than another of Google's co-founders Sergey Brin.
How did Jeff Bezos make so much money?
Bezos launched Amazon, the world's most lucrative e-commerce company, in 1994. It has since exploded into a multi-media empire involved in movies, television, cloud engineering, and more.
The 62-year-old billionaire is also the owner of the Washington Post, a prominent American newspaper that recently laid off a large portion of its sports department.
Bezos has other large investments, including Blue Origin (his aerospace company), Airbnb, Prometheus (AI manufacturing), and more. He is not known to be invested in any major sports teams.
What is happening with FSG?
Fenway Sports Group issued a statement on Bhatia's interest last month, saying: "An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."
Bhatia recently transfered his ownership in English side Queen Park Rangers, which is currently playing in the Championship, to open the door to a potential move to Liverpool.

Bhatia was the director and co-owner of QPR for 18 seasons as the club oscillated between the top flight and the second division of English football.
Reports have claimed that the Bhatia-led consortium is considering an eventual takeover, but for now, this roughly one-third investment puts the investors in a strong place for the future.
What next for Liverpool?
The Reds are gearing up for the start of the 2026/27 season, with less than two weeks to go now until the Premier League season gets underway, with Liverpool traveling to Newcastle on August 23.
Andoni Iraola has taken charge as the club's head coach following Arne Slot's firing earlier in the summer, although he has hit a couple of bumps in the road recently, with his side suffering back-to-back defeats against Leeds and Monaco in pre-season.
The Reds are yet to add to their two new additions so far this summer in Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz, although Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is set to complete a loan move to Anfield. Meanwhile, Liverpool remains in the running for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, who is being heavily tipped for a move away from the European champions this summer.
