Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland is the most lethal attacker in the Manchester City squad, so, understandably, their manager expects him to help the team score more goals when he resumes pre-season.
The striker has been handed an extended break after playing so many matches for club and country in recent months, and City are trying to manage his workload. The attacker will be happy with that, as he knows that once the season starts, he will rarely have time to rest and recharge.
Haaland expected to improve City
The team have already begun preparations for the new season with Haaland in their plans. City have not been involving him in matches, but after their latest win against Atletico Madrid, Enzo Maresca said he expects their attacking output to become even better when the Norway striker returns to the club.
The new manager is looking forward to working with Haaland, who has been instrumental in the success that City have achieved as a team since the start of his career at the club. His return could give their attack another major boost as they continue preparing for the new campaign.
Maresca believes there is still room for City to become more clinical in front of goal, particularly after creating several opportunities against Atletico. The return of Haaland could help them turn more of those chances into goals.
Maresca demands greater efficiency
As reported by Manchester City’s website, Maresca said:
“We could not create the amount of situations we did and not finish the action.
“There we need to be clinical – it’s something we need to improve.
“Slowly we are getting there and with Erling [Haaland] we can be even more dangerous.
“Today Omar scored twice – this is a boost – and yes I am happy with that.”
Haaland’s return will therefore give City another attacking option as they continue their preparations. The striker’s extended rest should also allow him to return refreshed after a demanding period with club and country.
City will hope Haaland can quickly regain his best form when he returns to training and matches. Maresca clearly believes the Norway international can make the team even more dangerous, while the striker’s goalscoring ability could help City become more clinical throughout the new season.
