Arsenal ‘remain convinced’ club can sign Gabriel Martinelli – Discount expected

Gabriel Martinelli’s future at Arsenal has been under discussions in the last few weeks. The idea of a move to AS Roma is gaining traction.

The winger is likely to find his game time next season reduced because of Christos Tzolis. The summer signing has impressed in pre-season, with the Brazilian having featured for a little over 1000 minutes in the Premier League last season.

Sport Witness have covered that the Arsenal attacker’s entourage is offering him around to various clubs. AS Roma had taken note of the situation but their move was looking rather complex.

Now, some developments around Martinelli are taking place.

Gunners believe deal could be possible

Monday’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport on Arsenal’s Martinelli today

Monday’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport reports that ‘the trail has been reopened’ regarding Roma’s move for the Brazil international.

The newspaper believe there is a chance Giallorossi sporting director Tony D’Amico was in London over the weekend. He has given up a move for Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa, making Martinelli now an important target.

His current deal with Arsenal runs out in 2027 and this has left Roma appealed by the idea of signing him.

The Italian side have been quite close to Martinelli’s entourage at Roc Nation. They have held discussions for not just the Gunners’ player, but also for Endrick and Malick Fofana, who are represented by Roc Nation.

As a result, Arsenal ‘remain convinced’ Roma can sign Martinelli and an agreement between the two clubs wouldn’t be impossible.

The London club value Martinelli at €40m to €45m right now. Roma believe the player’s contract situation can hand them a discount, with the player’s wage demands proving to be a bigger problem.

The winger wants €11m per season, however, Roma’s wage limit is currently €9m per season. There is work to be done in that department but discussions could start soon.

Our take: Move comes down to Martinelli’s wishes

It would be difficult for many big clubs to afford Martinelli’s wage demands. The 25-year-old wasn’t always impressive last season anyway, which should force him to reconsider his demands.

A move to Roma would help him a lot. Gian Piero Gasperini loves to work with direct wide players who cut inside and take shots on goal. Martinelli fits that profile perfectly and the Italian is desperate for that.

The ex-Atalanta manager will bring the best out of him and he could reach a new level.
