Newcastle United, a squad that has been ravaged by the transfer window this summer, have a new injury concern in Anthony Elanga. The Swedish forward was forced off against Valencia over the weekend, after suffering a shin injury during a strong challenge from Jose Gaya. The good news regarding Elanga is that he won’t be out for too long.

However, most likely the former Manchester United and Nottingham Forest man won’t be risked in midweek.

Elsewhere for the Magpies, beyond Elanga, Fabian Schar remains out while Tino Livramento is still pushing to be ready for opening day. Shifting gears to the Toffees, Dwight McNeil is a doubt with a lower leg injury.

Additionally, James Garner is continuing his rehab from a groin injury.

Everton manager David Moyes will be able to plug in more of his starters for this one, including goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who is now back from post-World Cup holiday.

It was a well-deserved holiday too, with Pickford and his England mates finishing third at the tournament.
