Cryptic Dak Prescott post from Von Miller puts Jerry Jones’ Cowboys back in the conversation image
Von Miller does not have a team yet, but the two-time Super Bowl champion has spent his summer anything but idle. He turned up at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard earlier this month, and the speculation connecting him to Dallas has not let up since.
Now he is backing Dak Prescott to win it all next season. Miller has made it clear that he is already in Prescott's corner, publicly tipping the Cowboys quarterback to lift the Lombardi Trophy come February with an iconic Michael Jordan reference.
Von Miller fuels new Cowboys speculation with Dak Prescott photo
This week, Miller shared an edited image of Prescott seated alone in a locker room with the Lombardi Trophy in hand to his Instagram stories. In the image, Prescott was seen wearing a cap that read "Super Bowl Champions."
Notably, the edit is a recreation of the iconic photograph of Michael Jordan after winning his first NBA title in 1991. Miller captioned the story with two words: "Why not?" By casting Prescott as the protagonist of that scene, Miller seems to be telling Dallas and the rest of the NFL that he believes this team can win it all, and that he wants to be part of the reason it does.
Miller had been linked to the Broncos and Bills earlier in the offseason, but neither club pursued him and he shifted his focus to Dallas. In July he told reporter RJ Ochoa, "This would be the first time my mom and dad don't have to fly to every single game," a nod to his roots in DeSoto, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. He was also spotted attending Cowboys training camp earlier this month, adding fuel to the speculation.
The 37-year-old is familiar with Dallas defensive coordinator Christian Parker's scheme from their shared time with the Denver Broncos, which could ease any transition. Miller previously posted a photoshopped image of himself in a Cowboys jersey last month, the first sign he was eyeing a move to Dallas. Miller recorded nine sacks last season with the Commanders on reduced snaps, showing he can still contribute in a rotational pass rush role.
Cowboys defense remains a work in progress
Dallas enters the 2026 season looking to address a defense that struggled significantly a year ago, following the trade of Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. The broader NFL preseason schedule is now taking shape as teams like the Cowboys finalize their rosters before Week 1.
Dallas has already made moves to address the defense elsewhere on the roster, and a Miller signing would add experience to a group still finding its identity. Fans looking to attend preseason games around the league will see Dallas open its exhibition slate in the coming weeks. Edge rusher remains one of the team's clearest areas for improvement. The Cowboys ranked among the league's worst defensive units by several metrics last season, adding urgency to any further additions before the opener.
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys front office have not confirmed any agreement with Miller, and no deal appears imminent. For now, Miller remains a free agent, with his Instagram activity doing most of the talking. Miller previously drew interest from the Cowboys during earlier stops in free agency, including when he ultimately chose the Buffalo Bills in 2022. This time, sources close to the situation say he is determined to make the right decision for the final stretch of his career.
