Chelsea handed home tie against Luton Town in Carabao Cup second round
Chelsea will face Luton Town at Stamford Bridge in the second round of the Carabao Cup following Monday evening’s draw.
Xabi Alonso’s side were handed a home tie as they enter the competition alongside the other Premier League clubs not involved in European competition during the opening round.
The fixture will be played during the week commencing Monday 24 August, with the exact date and kick-off time still to be confirmed.

Chelsea entered Monday’s southern section of the draw as ball number seven and have avoided an early away trip after being paired with Luton.
ReadChelsea explained earlier today how the second-round draw would work, including the regionalised format and Chelsea’s possible opponents.
Luton secured their place in the second round with a convincing 3-0 victory away to Gillingham on Saturday. Gideon Kodua completed the scoring as the Hatters comfortably progressed from their opening tie.
Chelsea and Luton have met regularly in recent years despite spending much of their history in different divisions.
Their most recent meeting at Stamford Bridge came in August 2023, when Chelsea secured a 3-0 Premier League victory. The clubs had also met in consecutive FA Cup campaigns in 2021 and 2022, with Chelsea winning both ties.
Alonso will now prepare for his first domestic cup tie as Chelsea head coach, with the fixture falling shortly after the start of the Premier League campaign.
Chelsea have won the League Cup five times, although their most recent triumph came in 2015.
A home draw gives the Blues an opportunity to begin this season’s competition in familiar surroundings, with Luton standing between them and a place in round three.
