TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — The honors keep pouring in for Arizona Cardinals’ first-ballot Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald Jr.
The Cardinals announced Monday that Larry Legend will be placed in the team’s Ring of Honor and will have his No. 11 jersey retired.
It will happen during a special halftime ceremony at the Red Birds’ Oct. 25 game against the Denver Broncos.
“No one who has ever worn a Cardinals uniform is more deserving of this honor,” said Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill. “His excellence on the field was only surpassed by the way he represented our team and our community off it. We are all grateful for the opportunity to recognize Larry in this way and for our fans to celebrate all he has meant to our franchise and the state of Arizona.”
Fitzgerald will become the sixth Cardinals player to have his jersey retired. He’ll join the ranks of safety Larry Wilson (8), safety Pat Tillman (40), tackle Stan Maudlin (77), tight end J.V. Cain (88) and halfback/defensive back Marshall Goldberg (99).
Fitzgerald will be the 20th member of the Cardinals Ring of Honor.
Saturday, Fitz was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, part of the 2026 class that included quarterback Drew Brees and Adam Vinatieri.
Fitzgerald is only the eighth wide receiver to be selected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
He was drafted No. 3 overall out of the University of Pittsburgh by the Cardinals in 2004. He finished as the all-time franchise leader in games played (263), receptions (1,432), receiving yards (17,492) and touchdowns (121).
During his 17-year career, he was selected to 11 Pro Bowls, finished second all-time in total receptions and receiving yards, and finished sixth in career touchdowns.
He never formally announced his retirement after stepping away following the 2020 season.
Fitzgerald’s greatest stage came during the Cardinals’ magical 2008 playoff run, when he set a single-postseason record with 546 receiving yards.
He saved his best for last, scoring a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLIII before the Pittsburgh Steelers rallied for a 27-23 win.
