Alexis Mac Allister monitored by Manchester City

Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister returned to Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre on Monday to begin his pre-season preparations.

The midfielder was given an extended break after helping Argentina reach the World Cup final this summer. Mac Allister was among the players criticised for their performances during Liverpool’s disappointing Premier League title defence, which led to speculation over his future.

However, he remains part of Andoni Iraola’s plans. The Liverpool head coach has indicated that Mac Allister’s late return means he is unlikely to start the opening weeks of the Premier League season, which begins with a trip to Newcastle United on August 23.

Iraola also addressed the growing speculation surrounding Alexis Mac Allister’s future last month. He said. “It is normal that other clubs want our best players, our good players, it always happens in other markets.

“But I want to, also as other clubs want, I want to keep my good players. Probably I’m looking forward more to signing new players than the ones we have here.”

Mac Allister has been a key player for Liverpool since joining from Brighton in 2023, winning the Premier League and EFL Cup. Last season, the midfielder racked up 55 appearances, scored five times and provided seven assists across all competitions.

Despite his importance to the Reds, the 27-year-old has reportedly emerged as a potential target for Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City.

According to talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs, Mac Allister has been discussed internally at City, although there has been no contact or developments with Liverpool. Mac Allister featured in every game for Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as they lost 1-0 to Spain in the final.

Manchester City could lose Rodri this summer, with Barcelona reportedly interested in signing the Spain international.

Rodri’s current contract at the Etihad Stadium runs until 2027, but there are no signs yet that the 30-year-old is ready to extend his stay.

Real Madrid have been keen on signing Rodri for some time, but Barcelona could now emerge as the midfielder’s next destination.
