Liverpool’s hopes of signing Bradley Barcola have been boosted after Paris Saint-Germain moved into the 'final stages' of signing Ferran Torres from Barcelona. Reports from France claim that the Ligue 1 club have submitted a €50million (£42.7m) bid for the Spaniard, and agreement between the two clubs is moving into the final stages as a verbal agreement has already been reached.

Torres joined Barcelona in December 2021 from Manchester City, but he is now preparing to sign a four-year contract with PSG. The development comes as Liverpool remain locked in talks with PSG over a deal for Barcola.

The France international is a leading target for the Reds as they look to add a proven winger to Andoni Iraola’s squad before the new season.

However, PSG have placed a value of around £145m on the 23-year-old, which would represent a British record sum and surpass the £125m the Reds paid for Alexander Isak last summer.

Liverpool have already completed the signing of Victor Munoz, but speaking last month, new Reds boss Iraola said his side has 'obvious' areas to address in the transfer market.

"I think it is difficult to say a number. When the market is open, you have to be always open to new options to improve the squad," Iraola said.

"There are obvious situations where we need to sign players. Winger for example, we definitely need to sign a winger, but there are other situations where we will have to analyze what the market gives you, what is the cost, how we also see the players we have.

"We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust, but it is still not the ideal situation, so it will depend on a lot of things."

Liverpool, though, have strengthened their options at the back after they signed Ronald Araujo on a season-long deal from Barcelona.

The 27-year-old has taken a pay cut to facilitate the move, for which the club have an option to buy for a pre-agreed price – believed to be £47million – should it prove successful.

The ECHO also understands that Liverpool will not pay a loan fee but will cover the wages of the defender, who can also cover right-back in addition to his preferred central-defensive position.
