Barcelona star Ronald Araújo is reported to have accepted a reduction in his salary to secure a move to the Premier League with Liverpool this summer.
Stopper Araújo has of course positioned himself front and centre in the media headlines across Spain and England alike on Monday evening. Following several days of rampant speculation, the Uruguayan has seen his departure from Barcelona made official.
As per a statement across the social media platforms of the Blaugrana, Araújo has taken his talents to the aforementioned Liverpool on loan for the duration of the season ahead.
The all-action defender is understood to have made the call to move on owing chiefly to a desire to secure more consistent minutes as a starter. Araújo appears to be confident in his chances of becoming the first-choice defensive partner for Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.
And as alluded to above, this commitment to revive his stalled career is understood to have come at a financial cost for the 27-year-old.
As per a report from journalist Ben Jacobs:
‘Liverpool will cover 100% of Araujo’s salary, but the defender took a pay cut for the forthcoming season as part of a desire to join and get regular minutes.’
