Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel has some bad news for fantasy football managers hoping the Los Angeles Chargers will feature just Omarion Hampton every Sunday.
Good luck predicting the workload.
Hampton enters the 2026 season as Los Angeles' unquestioned starter, but McDaniel has already made it clear that Kimani Vidal and Keaton Mitchell will also have significant roles in his offense.
When asked about distributing touches between the three backs, McDaniel offered a hilarious warning, via Kris Rhim on X.
“Bad news, fantasy owners. Good news is I see all three of those guys producing at a very high level. Bad news is I can't tell you which games those are.”
Hampton should still receive the largest workload. He's capable of running between the tackles, catching passes and handling red-zone opportunities, making him the most complete running back on the roster.
Things become far more interesting behind him. Vidal and Mitchell are battling for the RB2 job during training camp, but McDaniel's comments suggest both could play regardless of who technically wins the competition. Their different skill sets make that possible.
Mitchell's speed gives McDaniel an intriguing chess piece. The Chargers have already experimented with lining him up at receiver during camp, where he can create mismatches in space and become another target for Justin Herbert.

Which year did the NFL first allow players to wear their names on jerseys?
Vidal provides something different. He's a more traditional runner who could become valuable in short-yardage and red-zone situations.
Then there's Hampton, who can essentially do everything.
That's fantastic news for McDaniel and terrible news for fantasy managers trying to predict touches every week.
At some point, either Vidal or Mitchell should establish himself as the clear No. 2. But that doesn't necessarily mean the other disappears from the offense. McDaniel loves versatility and creating matchup problems. The Chargers have three running backs capable of providing exactly that.
