The Green Bay Packers are hunting for blood this season. Despite being favorites to win the NFC after last year's offseason, Green Bay failed in their quest to win the Lombardi. Injuries played a part in their struggles, with their defense suffering multiple ailments throughout the course of the season.
Because of that, the Packers are unsurprisingly trying to bolster their depth at the position. With that in mind, Green Bay is looking to work out a standout player from the USFL. Jordan Schultz reported that the team is signing former Florida Gators safety Trey Dean III after he completed a workout with them.
“Sources: The #Packers are signing free agent S Trey Dean III after working him out today,” Schultz reported. “Dean, the former Florida Gator, won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs and most recently starred in the USFL — where he won another championship.”

Dean went undrafted in 2023 after playing four seasons in Florida. He was initially signed by the New York Jets to their practice squad for the 2023 season. However, he did not play a single snap for the team in the regular season. He then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024 and was part of the team that eventually won the Super Bowl.
After a short stint with the Cleveland Browns after the Super Bowl season, Dean tried his hand at the USFL. He was signed by the DC Defenders in 2025 and then by the St. Louis Blackhawks in 2026, where he became part of another championship team. He played in six games for the Battlehawks, recording 20 tackles and a sack.
The Packers currently have Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams as their starting safeties for the 2026 season. McKinney was one of the more underrated safeties in the league. He recorded 72 solo tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and seven pass breakups.
