As their training camp rolls on, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is getting more reacclimated in the Bay Area following his return after a one-year stint with the Washington Commanders.

Samuel recently signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the 49ers. He has a lot of catching up to do, but fortunately for San Francisco, the 30-year-old wide receiver has not missed a beat. He has been nothing but impressive in training camp, giving the team another reason to be optimistic for the upcoming season.

In a video posted by 95.7 The Game, offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak gave a positive assessment of Samuel's return.

“Deebo's in great shape, first of all. He looks really good to me in terms of where his body's at. He can run all day,” said Kubiak.

“Deebo still looks like Deebo to me. When he has the ball in his hands, there's nobody more explosive, more dynamic on the field.”

In 16 games for the Commanders, he recorded 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns. Those were significantly higher numbers than his previous season with the 49ers.

Kubiak stressed that the one-time All-Pro will figure heavily in their game plan.

“Deebo's got to be able to affect the game in a lot of ways. That's our plan with him. Being out (from the team) for a year, there are things he's still catching up on in the offense a little bit. We're going to keep giving him the reps he needs and get him ready to play a multitude of spots and be a versatile player,” added Kubiak.

Samuel, who helped the 49ers reach the Super Bowl in 2019 and 2023, revealed that his return to San Francisco had been in the works “for a while,” with general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan constantly communicating with him.
