World Cup star Alexis Mac Allister has returned to Liverpool following an extended holiday from Anfield.

The Argentina international reached the final of the major tournament but fell to a 1-0 defeat alongside Lionel Messi and co. against Spain. Now, the midfielder is back at Anfield as he was welcomed back by various teammates. Meanwhile, the Reds continue to push to add more players to Andoni Iraola's squad ahead of the new season.

The new manager admitted that a winger is at the top of his wishlist and called it an "obvious situation" that the club has to change. Discussing the need for flexibility in the transfer market in July, Iraola said: "No, I think it's difficult to say a number when the market is open, and you have to be always open to new options to improve the squad.

"There are obvious situations that we know where we need to sign players. A winger, for example – we definitely need to sign a winger. But there are other situations that we will have to analyse what the market gives you, what's the cost, how we also see the players we have. We have some tricky positions where we have injured players that we trust but is still not the ideal situation. So, it will depend on a lot of things."

With this in mind, Liverpool have just one obstacle to overcome if they are to sign top target Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. Here, the ECHO has all the latest coming out of Anfield.

Bradley Barcola has reportedly said 'yes' to a Liverpool move after agreeing on personal terms. Fabrizio Romano claims that the two clubs are in "direct, official conversation" and the Ligue 1 side's £145million valuation is still the main obstacle.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano states that the two clubs are in 'daily talks' and that, while a financial agreement has yet to be reached, PSG's potential pursuit of Barcelona forward Ferran Torres could pave the way for Barcola's transfer to Liverpool.

The Reds have been touted with a host of other wide options, among them fellow PSG star Ibrahim Mbaye, Brighton's Yankuba Minteh and Bournemouth's Rayan.

Alexis Mac Allister has made his return to the AXA Training Centre following his post-World Cup holiday. The Argentina international fell to a 1-0 defeat to Spain in extra-time in the final, having featured in vital victories alongside Lionel Messi and his other teammates.

Mac Allister can be seen in a video shared by the club on social media embracing his teammates upon his return, including Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch. He sat alongside Federico Chiesa, Kostas Tsimikas and Alisson with what is reported to be a new hair transplant.

Attention will now turn to getting back up to speed at Liverpool as Iraola's inaugural season at the helm at Anfield is set to begin.
