Jason Cundy makes stunning Chelsea Premier League title claim
Jason Cundy has made a huge Chelsea Premier League title prediction, backing Xabi Alonso’s side to finish above Arsenal and the rest of their rivals this season.
The former Blues defender believes Chelsea’s squad strength and lack of European football could give them a major advantage.
Cundy returned to talkSPORT on Monday night and immediately made his feelings clear about Chelsea’s prospects ahead of the new campaign.
His confidence comes after another aggressive summer of recruitment at Stamford Bridge, with Morgan Rogers, Marco Palestra and Maxence Lacroix among the major additions to Alonso’s squad.
Jason Cundy backs Chelsea Premier League title charge
talkSPORT reports that Cundy has tipped Chelsea to win the Premier League, arguing that the Blues have a significant advantage over several of their rivals.
Cundy pointed towards Chelsea’s attacking options, Alonso’s experience and the fact the Blues are set to play only once a week for much of the season.
He also compared the situation to Antonio Conte’s title-winning Chelsea side in 2016/17, when the absence of European football allowed the Italian to spend more time working with his players.
Cundy said: “Chelsea will win the title.”
It is a significant change in tone from the former Chelsea defender.
Back in January 2025, Cundy dismissed suggestions that Chelsea were genuine title contenders and argued they were not ready to challenge at the top.
This time, his assessment is far more bullish.
Chelsea’s squad has certainly been strengthened. Rogers has added another elite attacking option alongside Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro, while Lacroix and Palestra have improved Alonso’s defensive choices.
ReadChelsea reported on Monday that Alonso is also finally set to work with his full squad this week, with Rogers, Reece James and Enzo Fernandez among those returning following extended post-World Cup breaks.
That should give the Chelsea head coach a clearer picture of the squad available to him before the Premier League campaign begins.
Cundy still admitted he has reservations over Robert Sanchez remaining Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper, but that has not stopped him backing Alonso’s side to mount a serious challenge.
Arsenal may begin the season among the favourites, but Chelsea have now been backed by one of their former players to go one step further and win the title.
