Arsenal have opened the doors to Reiss Nelson joining West Ham, according to reports.
The Standard claim that the Hammers have made an official approach for the 26-year-old, who has less than a year left on his contract at the Emirates.
It is believed that the Gunners are “keen” on Nelson making the switch across London, following “talks” between the two clubs.
Mikel Arteta’s side would, though, much prefer a permanent move, rather than a loan, due to the fact that he could leave on a free transfer next summer.
Nelson does have other suitors
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are not thought to be the only team pursuing the former England Under-21 international’s signature.
Portuguese giants Benfica are reportedly among Nelson’s suitors. Their head coach is Marco Silva, who signed the player on loan for Fulham a couple of years ago.
The forward’s spell at Craven Cottage ended early after he sustained a serious hamstring injury, but Silva clearly rates the player highly.
Nelson does have other clubs interested in signing him too, so the Irons can’t afford to linger if they do want to bring him to the London Stadium before the transfer window closes.
West Ham need more wingers
Despite the impending arrival of Manor Solomon from Tottenham, Nuno is still very short of options out wide, following Crysencio Summerville’s departure for Al-Hilal.
Maxwel Cornet and Keiber Lamadrid are not expected to feature regularly. They did not make the matchday squad for the 3-1 win over Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup at the weekend, although the latter was believed to be absent due to injury.
Captain Jarrod Bowen and Solomon would probably be asked to play the majority of minutes, so adding Nelson to the squad would take some of the workload off the pair.
