Liverpool have reportedly decided on their next two transfers, as a deal that will see Jeff Bezos become a shareholder edges closer. The Amazon founder is part of a consortium aiming to buy a one-third stake in the club, with their investment said to be valued at £1.5billion.
As is the case with any new ownership, there is a willingness to invest in the playing squad straight away, but time is running out with just weeks of the window left. Virgil van Dijk has already issued a rallying call to the transfer executives, claiming the Liverpool squad is in desperate need of added quality.
And according to The Sun, the two players the Reds are targeting this summer are Bradley Barcola and Alex Scott. The former has been on Liverpool’s radar for the majority of the summer, with it said that the Frenchman wants out of Paris Saint-Germain, after failing to nail down a starting position.
Barcola has reportedly agreed to join Liverpool, with a five-year contract reportedly having been agreed. However, the fee appears to be holding everything up, with PSG, who are traditionally tough negotiators, demanding remuneration in the region of £130million.
Liverpool have no interest in going that high, despite the desperate need for reinforcements in attack. Granted, Liverpool did lavish over £400m on fresh talent last year, the majority of which were in the attacking department, but so far this summer, the six-time European champions have struck just one deal and that was worth £34.5million on Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna.

Jeremy Jacquet’s move from Rennes, worth around £60m, was completed this summer, but the original deal had been agreed in January. That doesn’t mean to say Liverpool will shut up shop, with a pursuit for Bournemouth’s Scott also ongoing.
Iraola was crucial to the Englishman establishing himself as one of the league’s brightest talents, and Scott would be a welcome addition to the Liverpool squad. But, much like the Barcola transfer, Liverpool aren’t showing any willingness to match Bournemouth’s asking price, which is said to be around £80m.
Time is running out for the 2024/25 Premier League champions, as they have just one pre-season friendly left before the season opener away to Newcastle. Following that, it’s matches against Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town and Fulham for Iraola and co.
