Chelsea are stepping up their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s Fabian Ruiz, according to reports in the French media
Sport.fr claims that the Blues are “ready to make an offer” in the region of €60m (£51m) for the Spanish international.
Ruiz has been mentioned as a potential target by other sources over the last few days, with Xabi Alonso’s side looking to sign a midfielder before the transfer window closes.
We shall have to wait and see whether there is any truth to this story that a formal bid is in the offing.
Ruiz’s contract situation
Officially, the 30-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but the likes of Fabrizio Romano and other notable journalists have reported over the last month that an extension has been signed.
Ruiz is said to have put pen to paper on a contract, keeping him at the Parc des Princes until the summer of 2029, with an option for another year.
However, PSG have never publicly announced the extension, leaving doubts about his future. If he has actually signed on the dotted line, though, you would think that a transfer to Stamford Bridge is unlikely.
Do Chelsea have other midfield targets?
Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is still thought to be high up the list of options for the recruitment team, despite the Blues having had a bid knocked back for the player earlier this summer.
Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton remains on the club’s radar, while recent reports in Italy have claimed that the London club are keen on Roma’s Manu Kone.
It should be noted, though, that any approach for a midfielder may still be dependent on Enzo Fernandez leaving. So far, no club has made a formal approach for the Argentinian international, with interested parties having been scared off by his £120m asking price.
