Frank Lampard knows exactly how to get the best out of Mykhailo Mudryk. The Chelsea winger could be shipped out on loan this summer as he looks to revive his career at the highest level after almost two years on the sidelines, and Coventry City have been mooted as a potential suitor.
At the end of July, the Football Association confirmed that disciplinary proceedings against Mudryk had been resolved. The Ukrainian was provisionally suspended in December 2024 after testing positive for a banned substance called meldonium, which was administered abroad while away on international duty.
He was then officially charged by the FA with anti-doping violations in June 2025. After lodging an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in February 2026, the four-year ban was rescinded.
Mudryk, who maintained his innocence throughout the process, then jetted off to Hong Kong to meet Xabi Alonso and reunite with his teammates. The winger made a couple of cameo appearances off the bench during the pre-season tour, taking to the pitch for the first time since November 2024.
football.london understands that, shortly after Mudryk was cleared to play, he was subject to approaches from three Premier League clubs, including Coventry City. If the Ukrainian were to join the newly-promoted outfit on loan, he could reunite with Lampard.
Mudryk, whom the Blues signed from Shakhtar Donetsk for an initial £61mililon in January 2023, briefly worked with the Chelsea legend towards the end of his first season at Stamford Bridge. He only featured eight times under Lampard, but he certainly made a great impression.
Speaking on the Sky Sports show, Monday Night Football, in October 2023, the former Blues boss recalled his experience with Mudryk. Lampard heaped great praise on the winger and even revealed that he tried to sign him during his spell as Everton head coach.

"Pace is a huge strength, and his technical ability when he dribbles and his finishing," said the all-time Chelsea top scorer. "We used to train a lot, and he’s a compulsive finisher, in a positive way.
"He’s out after training, and he wants to shoot. He’s a very good finisher, and I know we haven’t seen that, but you have to come back and say that this young boy has moved into the Premier League, and it’s different.
"The areas in which I have seen him – at Everton we actually wanted to buy him, it was probably never going to happen – and he moved on to Chelsea, but I have seen a lot of him and when he is wide it is natural you get the ball to his feet but now people are very aware of this from him, the pace, and they will try and stop him."
On what Mudryk needed to do to reach the next level, Lampard said: "Coming off the line, it’s more difficult for him. He’s lightning, he can probably outrun anyone in the league, end product – could it be better? Probably, yeah, but that’s typical for a young player."
Almost three years later, and Lampard could take Mudryk back under his wing. football.london understands that Chelsea are open to loan offers for the Ukrainian, who's attracted plenty of interest from English top-flight clubs.
