Dutch club keen on Kieran Morrison

The 2026 pre-season programme has given several Liverpool fringe players a rare chance to impress Andoni Iraola.

The Reds’ three-match tour of the United States took them to Nashville, New York and Chicago before pre-season shifted back to Anfield.

Liverpool opened with a 4-2 win over Sunderland in Nashville on July 25, with several younger squad members named in the matchday squad. That set the tone for a tour built around fitness, rotation and minutes for players still fighting for a foothold in Iraola’s plans.

One of those names has since stood out more than most.

According to The Athletic, Kieran Morrison’s performances across the tour have opened up new loan interest, including from clubs in the Netherlands.

The 19-year-old winger played in all three US fixtures, scoring in the win over Sunderland. He was left out of Liverpool’s matchday squad entirely for the friendly defeat to Monaco at Anfield on August 9, a decision that has fuelled talk of a temporary departure before the transfer window closes.

Kieran Morrison signed a new four-year contract at Liverpool in May, extending his stay until 2030. Despite that commitment, the club are understood to be open to sending him out on loan to guarantee regular first-team football this season.

Interest has come from clubs in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, along with sides in the Championship. Dutch club FC Groningen have been named as one suitor, a side with a history of developing young wingers, including Arjen Robben and Luis Suarez.

Bolton Wanderers have also been linked, with the promoted Championship side reportedly keen to follow the same pathway used for Conor Bradley, who spent the 2022-23 season on loan at the club.

Morrison’s form last season went some way to explaining the growing interest. He scored 15 goals and added seven assists in 28 appearances for Liverpool’s U21s and U19s.

That form earned him a senior call-up for Northern Ireland, for whom he made his debut in June. Liverpool are yet to confirm which direction his season will take, but the interest gathering pace suggests a decision is close.
