Louie Copley confirms ACL tear after Arsenal debut blow

Arsenal

Arsenal U-21 player Louie Copley has shared a tragic news with the fans. The Gunners youngster has suffered an ACL injury which will keep him off the pitch for several months. This news is more heartbreaking because just a few days ago, he made his senior team debut in the pre-season. Some senior team players have shown their support.

Louie Copley has to be out for the whole season for ACL injury

As reported by Football London, Arsenal academy star Louie Copley has ruptured his ACL. This incident happened during Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Real Betis. It was going to be one of his best moments of his career as his professional football life was kick-starting at the top level. But it turned into a nightmare for him. Copley has to be out up to April 2027, missing the whole of 2026-27 campaign.

The 19-year-old saw his dream getting fulfilled. Copley went to Crawley Town on loan for the second half of 2025-26 season. Few days ago, he got his first unofficial senior minutes in the Arsenal shirt in the friendly match against Girona. At Estadi Montilivi, Copley was introduced by manager Mikel Arteta as a substitute in the 61st minute replacing Cristhian Mosquera. He was again substituted and Theo Julienne came in. The match against Real Betis was held in Aviva Stadium in Ireland. The Gunners lost that match 3-1 but it was not the major loss for the Premier League side. In the 46th minute, Copley came in place of Ben White and had to go out 10 minutes later. Julienne came in place of injured Copley.

Later medical tests revealed that he has suffered an ACL tear. The worst thing the Arsenal fans could imagine is now a reality. The youngster will be prevented from getting minutes in the Premier League or any other competition. The midfielder will not be able to secure any loan move outside to get experience.

Louie Copley’s exciting pre-season with Arsenal

Before this injury, Copley had a brilliant run with Arsenal’s U-21 team. He became a regular starter and a promising prospect for his team. This season could have been his breakthrough campaign spending time with both the first team and the junior team. He has shown his leadership trait after winning the captain’s armband in the U-21 team.

The young Gunner was named in the substitute bench for the match against Club Brugge and that was his first professional experience. He has got some valuable football experience during his loan spell at Crawley Town. After playing as a right back against Girona, Arteta noticed that he can do something different from the other full backs. Hincapie, Timber, Calafiori and White were previously centre backs and had trained themselves to play on either side of the backline.

Copley’s statement and support from his new teammates

As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Louie Copley posted about his injury on social media. He said on Instagram, “Words can’t describe how I’m feeling right now, to making my pre season debut for the team I’ve grown up supporting to finding out I’ve ruptured my ACL. The road ahead won’t be easy but I’ll give everything to come back stronger and better.” Two of his senior teammates have shown their support in his tough time. Declan Rice commented a red heart on Copley’s post. Jurrien Timber commented with two hands together, praying for him.
