Mac Allister linked with Man City & big Ndukwe loan interest – Latest LFC News

Alexis Mac Allister is reportedly wanted by Liverpool’s rivals Man City this summer, but how likely is the move?

Man City linked with shock Mac Allister signing

According to talkSPORT‘s Ben Jacobs, City have “shortlisted” Mac Allister as an option to replace Rodri, but there has been no contact yet.

The influential Spain World Cup winner is looking likely to join Barcelona, leaving a gaping void at the heart of City’s midfield.

Mac Allister is “among the potential options being explored” by Liverpool’s rivals, along with Adam Wharton and Enzo Fernandez.

That said, The Athletic have debunked the rumour, saying he is “not likely” to leave the Reds, continuing to be a “key part of the squad” instead.

Mac Allister was way below his best last season, but if Andoni Iraola gets the best out of him, he is an elite midfield option.

We’re taking this exit claim with a pinch of salt.

Harry McMullen has looked into Araujo as a player, outlining why he could be better suited to Iraola’s style than Barcelona‘s:

“Araujo’s fit with Andoni Iraola is intriguing. The ability to win 1v1s and defend large spaces is crucial for Iraola.

“But where Barcelona keep a flat backline, Iraola uses a more complex ‘hybrid pressing’ system which requires centre-backs to step up and press the ball receiver from behind – even if that means following a striker all the way into midfield.

“That’s not been Araujo’s game at Barcelona, with Hansi Flick wanting the centre-back pair to stay together and squeeze up to play offside.”

Liverpool FC: On this day

Inch perfect ?

A sublime Gerrard free-kick at Villa Park ??? #AVLLIV pic.twitter.com/wNbrOzk9X9

— Liverpool FC (@LFC) October 3, 2020

On this day in 2007, Steven Gerrard scored a stunning last-gasp free-kick to earn Liverpool a 2-1 win at Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the season.

The Reds went ahead through a Martin Laursen own goal, but Gareth Barry equalised with a penalty, and it looked like Rafa Benitez‘s side had thrown away two points.

But Gerrard did what he did best endless times in a Liverpool shirt, rescuing his boyhood club when they most needed him.

That win at Villa Park also saw Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel and Andriy Voronin make their Reds debuts.
