The ninth overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II has quickly become one of the NFL's best at his position. The 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Surtain II, has become one of the Broncos' team leaders as the franchise has returned to playoff contention under head coach Sean Payton. During an appearance on Kay Adams' show, “Up and Adams,” Tuesday, Surtain II asked where his invite to the Madden NFL 99 Club was. The show shared his plea with the video game franchise via X, formerly Twitter.
“Your move, @EAMaddenNFL,” posted the Adams-hosted show. “Let's get Pat Surtain in the 99 club!!”
Surtain II certainly does have an argument for the 99 Club, even if he's coming off a bit of a down year by his usual lofty standards. The former Alabama standout is following in the footsteps of his father, former NFL cornerback Patrick Surtain. In addition to his 2024 DPOY win, Surtain II has been to four straight Pro Bowls, in addition to three First or Second All-Pro team nods. 2025 was also his fifth straight season with at least one interception.
As the Broncos look to get further than an AFC Championship Game bid in 2026, Surtain II will likely look to mount a campaign for a second DPOY win. The former top ten pick is a key piece of Denver's core and has bought into Payton's message. If Surtain II does indeed mount a second award-winning season, plus a trip to the Super Bowl, don't be surprised to see him in the Madden NFL 99 Club next year. Who knows? Even the cover might be possible for one of the NFL's best defenders.
