Cameron Jordansuffered a hamstring injury last week. The Saints icon has plenty of time to recover in time for Week 1, but it is not clear at this point if he will manage to do so.
A
dditional opinions have been sought out following Jordan’s injury. The 37-year-old has missed only two regular-season games to date in his career, including one due to injury. Head coach Kellen Moore recently acknowledged that figure could increase, however.
“We’ll see,” Moore said (via NOLA.com’s Matthew Paras) when speaking about Jordan’s timeline. “It could possibly get into the season, but you never know. So these things, you’ve just got to have some patience with it, let it take its course and we’ll collect more and more information as we go.”
Jordan’s future was uncertain for a large portion of the offseason, but he ultimately agreed to remain in New Orleans on a one-year deal. The pact’s base value of $7.5MM fell short of what Jordan was believed to be seeking coming off a productive campaign, but he never considered a similar offer from an outside suitor. 2026 will represent his 16th NFL season, and a retirement announcement after the year is expected.
New Orleans continued to rely on Jordan as a defensive regular last season, and he posted 10.5 sacks. Similar production in 2026 would go a long way toward the Saints reaching the playoffs in what is likely to be his final campaign. New Orleans also has Chase Young, Carl Granderson and trade acquisition Tyree Wilson in the fold but Jordan figures to maintain a significant workload upon returning to full strength.
The timeline for that to take place is unclear at this point. Jordan’s status will be worth watching as a result as his remarkable run of durability receives a test not long before the start of the campaign.
