Manchester City face Premier League holders Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday.
The Citizens won the FA Cup back in May to book their place in the curtain-raiser for the upcoming campaign, which will mark Enzo Maresca’s first match in charge of the club.
The Italian took charge of City earlier this summer, following the departure of Pep Guardiola at the end of last term, ending a hugely successful spell at The Etihad.
Maresca will be desperate to see his side get the better of the Gunners at Wembley, but in the meantime it has emerged that the new City boss is keen to be reunited with one of his former players in Manchester.
As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, Maresca ‘would love’ to lure Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez to Manchester.
He claims that the ex-Leicester City boss remains a huge admirer of the Argentine and has been keen to lure him to The Etihad since arriving at the club.
Fernandez, 25, worked under Maresca during the Italian’s time in charge at Stamford Bridge, and he remains a key player for the Blues.
The midfielder’s future has been thrown into some doubt in recent months, though, with speculation rife.

It has been rumoured that the player could leave Stamford Bridge this summer, with Spanish sides Barcelona and Real Madrid both said to be interested in the player.
Romano claims, however, that City are admirers of the Argentina international and have been attempting to sign him for some time, even before Barcelona showed interest in current Citizens star Rodri.
Chelsea, however, are said to be adamant that their £120 million valuation of the player must be met in order for him to leave, with the west London side happy to see Fernandez join up with Xabi Alonso’s squad if a move doesn’t materialise.
Fernandez joined Chelsea from Portuguese side Benfica back in 2023 and has since made 169 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 31 goals and registering 30 assists.
