Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has said that he would swap Myles Lewis-Skelly for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford this summer.
Lewis-Skelly’s future has become a topic of speculation over the past few hours, and it has been reported that he has been offered to United and Chelsea.
Amid this, Dixon has talked up a possible swap deal involving Lewis-Skelly and Rashford
Speaking to BestBettingSites, the former Gunners right-back said that he has nothing against Lewis-Skelly, but the move could provide more freedom for the youngster to expand his game.
The 62-year-old added that he has reservations over Rashford’s overall consistency, but would like to see him in an Arsenal shirt, given the need for more quality in the final third next season.
He said: “Would I swap them (Lewis-Skelly and Rashford)? You know what, I probably would. And that’s nothing against Myles Lewis-Skelly; it’s about giving him the freedom to go and expand his game elsewhere.
“With Marcus Rashford, he’s a player who needs an arm around his shoulder, and Arteta would be great for him. Give him that love, give him the freedom to play on that left side.
“I would like to see him in an Arsenal shirt. I have my reservations about whether he is consistently a top-class player, but based on what Arsenal have in the squad now, he would be a good addition.”
Lewis-Skelly has been surprisingly linked with United and Chelsea today, but the Gunners are not actively looking to sell him, while the 19-year-old is content to stay next season.
As for Rashford, he had a good 2025/26 campaign on loan with La Liga giants Barcelona. The Englishman notched up 14 goals and 14 assists (28 goal contributions) from 49 appearances.
The 28-year-old played a minimal role at the World Cup but still managed two goal contributions.
He has now been reintegrated into United’s training after Barcelona chose not to trigger an affordable £26 million buy clause. They decided to sign Anthony Gordon for £69m instead.
If Arsenal hold any form of interest in Rashford, they should explore a separate transfer. United will no doubt seek a higher fee than £26m, given his solid loan season for the Blaugrana.
The major roadblock could be his weekly wages. Arsenal were prepared to pay a record salary to Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior before he extended his contract at the Spanish giants.
The Gunners are bound to hold a different stance regarding Rashford, given he is almost three years older than Vinicius and does not possess the same credentials as the Brazilian.
Rashford is presently on £300,000 per week and turns 29 in October. Arsenal may want him to accept a sizeable pay-cut if they decide to pursue his services in the next few weeks.
