Liverpool should move for $61M talent who's just been offered to Man Utd and Chelsea

Liverpool still has plenty of work to do before the summer transfer window closes, and Arsenal may have just presented an option that could help out in two problem positions

With less than two weeks to go until the start of the new season and three remaining before the transfer window closes, you would hope that Liverpool is far from done with its transfer business.

That certainly seems to be the case when it comes to the Reds’ attack, with the search for Mohamed Salah’s replacement still ongoing. The pursuit of Bradley Barcola will need to come to some sort of conclusion soon, not least because there are still other areas to address.

Whether the defense will receive any more additions after Ronald Araujo’s arrival seems increasingly unlikely now, but Liverpool should not overlook it’s midfield.

That proved to be a major problem area last season, and it is yet to be rectified so far this summer. Granted, you would hope that the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch might perform better this time around, but that shouldn’t be taken as a given.

Who Liverpool would look to should it get the chance to address the engine room is still unclear, but Arsenal may have just presented an option.

According to The Guardian, Myles Lewis-Skelly has been offered to Manchester United and Chelsea as the Gunners look to recoup some of the $101 million (£75M) it paid Newcastle to sign Bruno Guimaraes.

Arsenal is said to want around $61 million (£45M) for the 19-year-old, who made 36 appearances in total last season, although that included just five league starts.

It musn’t be forgotten though that Lewis-Skelly made quite the impact on Arsenal’s season, having been turned to by Mikel Arteta towards the end of the campaign as he helped steady a ship that was threatening to wobble out of control with the title in sight. In fact, his performances ended up earning him a start in the Champions League final.

He did all of that while deputizing in midfield - not bad for a player who is a left-back by trade. Having signed a five-year contract just last summer, it is curious to say the least that Arsenal is seemingly happy to offload him.

But if the Gunners are willing to let him go, then Liverpool should be taking a look. Lewis-Skelly would bolster a midfield that is in need of some fresh blood, and provide more competition at left-back, a position that is in a bit of a strange situation right now.

Milos Kerkez still hasn’t quite found his feet, while Kostas Tsimikas is back in the fold, 12 months after his time at Liverpool felt as though it was coming to a natural end with his loan move to Roma. With just a year remaining on his contract, it feels like the Reds might be kicking this particular can further down the road.

Lewis-Skelly though could be the ideal option to bring in this summer. He can fill two problem positions, he’s shown plenty of promise at just 19, and he’s a homegrown player - something which could appeal greatly to Liverpool right now.

Whether Arsenal would be willing to sell to the Reds is another matter - it might well depend on whether the north London club views Liverpool as a real title threat. With Lewis-Skelly, it might just become one.
