With all the Enzo Fernandez rumours coming back out, it looks as if it has something to do with his agent, Javier Pastore.
Enzo Fernandez’s agent, former player Javier Pastore, caused a right mess last season by publicly blasting Chelsea for banning Enzo over comments flirting with a move to Madrid. He didn’t hold back, repeatedly teasing a summer exit and slamming stalled contract talks, which caused all kinds of issues.
To be fair to Enzo, he’s been very professional of late, putting his comments of last season in the past and holding it together during Argentina’s quest to the World Cup final.
Currently, Enzo’s situation at Stamford Bridge remains a lot more calm. Despite reintegrating into the squad, rumours involving Enzo Maresca and Manchester City have started to emerge.
Javier Pastore holds talks with Manchester City
According to Fabrizio Romano, Javier Pastore and Manchester City have spoken in recent days.
Man City already made contact with Enzo Fernandez camp, but the deal depends on Chelsea‘s valuation, which stands at £120m.
The Blues would be happy to keep Enzo, with Man City hoping to negotiate a deal dependent on price.
It’s a stark contrast from about two months ago when it seemed as if Enzo was forcing his way out of the door at Chelsea. Perhaps a nod to Xabi Alonso for turning things around at Stamford Bridge already.
Why Xabi Alonso will be worried about Enzo Fernandez
Xabi Alonso will be sweating over this situation big time. Having his star midfielder’s agent talking with Man City, knowing the interest is there doesn’t bode well.
Alonso needs total focus and unity as he kicks off his first season at Stamford Bridge, but Pastore’s loud mouth is turning Enzo into a massive, unneeded distraction.
The one positive is the fact that it doesn’t look as if Man City will put up the £120 million that Chelsea are demanding, having already spent a similar amount on Elliot Anderson.
