Arsenal reportedly hold an interest in signing Liverpool target and Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, as per The Standard.
Following Leandro Trossard’s move to Turkish giants Besiktas, the Gunners have decided to reinforce the left flank by purchasing Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge.
The 24-year-old has shown glimpses of his qualities for Arsenal during the pre-season matches, making three goal contributions in as many appearances.
Apart from Tzolis, Mikel Arteta also has Gabriel Martinelli as an option to deploy on the left flank. However, he has displayed inconsistent performances in recent years and has entered the final 12 months of his current contract.
Now, The Standard state that Arsenal are considering signing a new marquee winger this summer despite already purchasing Tzolis. After missing out on Vinicius Junior, the Gunners are showing an interest in signing Barcola.
The Athletic report that Liverpool have been working on a deal to sign the Frenchman but remain far away from finalising the operation. Les Parisiens want a fee of around £145m to sell Barcola, but Liverpool don’t want to sign him by matching the asking price.
If Luis Enrique’s side don’t lower their valuation, Liverpool might opt to shift their focus to alternative options. The Standard report that Arsenal will keep a close eye on Barcola’s situation and could make a move in case Liverpool eventually opt to pull the plug on this deal.
Barcola to Arsenal
Barcola is a left-winger by trait and has showcased his productivity in recent years, making 19 goal contributions across all competitions last term.
Moreover, he has helped his side win three Ligue 1 titles, two Champions League trophies and several other major cup competitions over the last few seasons.
However, he has struggled to break into Enrique’s starting line-up in big Champions League matches. So, speculation surrounding his future has been emerging.
The 23-year-old is a top-class player and possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure Barcola to the Emirates Stadium by defeating Liverpool in this race.
