A fresh Ezri Konsa Arsenal transfer development has emerged after the defender was confirmed to be unavailable for Aston Villa’s UEFA Super Cup meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.
Konsa remains Arsenal’s leading defensive target as Mikel Arteta looks for cover following injuries to William Saliba and Jurrien Timber.
However, his absence from Villa’s squad on Wednesday night should not be interpreted as evidence that a move is imminent.
Unai Emery has confirmed Konsa, Emiliano Martinez and Ollie Watkins have all been given additional time away after reaching the latter stages of the World Cup.
Speaking ahead of the PSG game, Emery explained that the trio finished their seasons on 19 July and required four weeks of rest before returning to club football. The full explanation can be read in the London Standard’s fresh report on Konsa.
If Arsenal value Ezri Konsa around £40m and we value him at £60m, I wonder if an agreement could be found at around £50m, right in the middle if he is indicating he doesn’t want to sign a new contract ? 🤔 #avfc | #afc pic.twitter.com/uNleoLlxwp

Konsa’s absence may therefore be unrelated to his future, but Arsenal’s interest remains significant.
Arteta wants another defender before the transfer window closes, with Arsenal particularly short at centre-back following Saliba and Timber’s setbacks.
Aston Villa reportedly value the England international at around £60million, which remains the major obstacle to a deal. Arsenal’s valuation is understood to be lower.
That difference has already led the Gunners to explore alternatives. ReadArsenal reported on Tuesday that Barcelona defender Jules Kounde has emerged as another option as Arsenal consider whether to meet Villa’s demands.
Konsa nevertheless remains firmly on Arsenal’s radar.
His absence against PSG changes little from a transfer perspective, but it does mean he will not receive competitive minutes before returning to Villa’s preparations for the new Premier League season.
Arsenal must now decide whether to close the sizeable gap with Villa or move more aggressively for one of their alternative defensive targets.
